“Prahar upon acorpolous”
Founded by Charles IV, Holy Roman Emperor and King of Bohemia, in 1348, Charles University in Prague (Praha) is among the oldest universities in Europe. The proposed 2010 Symposium will take place in the centrally located Faculty of Philosophy building. Situated on Jan Palach Square on the bank of the river Vltava and facing Prague Castle, the Faculty building is in the heart of the Old Town (Staré Město) beside the historical Jewish quarter, and just a few minutes walk from Charles Bridge. The area is plentifully supplied with restaurants and cafés. Wenceslas Square, the National Theatre, the National Library, Franz Kafka’s birthplace are all within short walking distance. The venue is easily accessed by metro, tram and bus.

The conference venue (Charles University, Filozofická fakulta, Náměstí Jana Palacha 2, 116 38 Prague 1) is located next to the Metro A line station Staromestska.
From the Airport
The conference venue may be reached by airport taxi or shuttle (approximately 30 minutes), or by municipal transport (bus 119 to Dejvicka, then three stops on the Underground – Metro – line A, getting off at Staromestska; approx. 35 minutes).
Taxis
Rates for Airport Taxis are approximately: 590 CZK (18 GBP, 25 EUR, 32 USD), for Mercedes cars 20 percent surcharge (total 708 CZK, 20 GBP, 28 EUR, 38 USD). Apart from Airport Taxis, the AAA taxi company operates at similar rates.

Airport Shuttles (CEDAZ) and Airport Taxis
operate at fixed rates. Rates for CEDAZ Airport Shuttles: 480 CZK (15 GBP, 21 EUR, 27 USD) for one to four persons going to one hotel or boarding house in the city centre; 960 CZK (30 GBP, 42 EUR, 54 USD) for five to eight persons going to one destination in the city centre. Scheduled Shuttle Bus (CEDAZ)
service operating between 6:00 and 21:00 every thirty minutes connects the airport with the city centre (V Celnici street) and stops at the Underground (Metro) A line station Dejvicka. The fare is 90 CZK (2.50 GBP, 3.50 EUR, 5 USD), or 60 CZK (1.75 GBP, 2.40 EUR, 3.20 USD) to the Dejvicka Metro station. All participants planning to use Airport Shuttles and Scheduled Shuttle Bus should proceed to the CEDAZ ticket counter in the Arrival Lounges of both Terminals of the Prague Airport. Municipal Transport Bus 119,
running approximately every fifteen minutes, connects the airport with the station Dejvicka of the Underground (Metro), line A. Transferable Municipal Transport tickets (valid for 60 minutes on all routes operated by Prague Municipal Transport) are available for 26 Czech crowns (0.80 GBP, 1 EUR, 1.50 USD) at tobacconists, street kiosks and from the vending machines at the Prague Airport and at all stations of the Subway/Underground (Metro). Prague Municipal Transport has an information counter and sales point in the airport arrival halls. You can also buy them from the drivers of bus 119 for 30 crowns.
